Plum Creek
The Plum hit six feet today. Spalding Hurst and Joshua Seabolt got there when it was at four feet. It was a great local run with lots of surf. 25 minutes to the put in and all of the waves you want. Four and a half inches of rain hit the area today in a monster storm that knocked out power in parts of Louisville.

I was there for Plum. Me and my brother had the orange duckies. It was a great time. I actually have quite a few pictures and videos from the day. I'll post a link to them whenever I get everything organized.
ReplyDeleteHere is a trip report from the Viking Canoe Club board:
ReplyDeleteHoping future paddling seasons follow this years lead, because getting on the Plum in warm weather rocks. Yes there is the dreaded gate at the put in, this is a theft deterrent, not a block to boaters. The owner came out, with his juvenile pet raccoon, and set us straight, paddlers welcome.
The first shift with Aquaholic, FCCADUCKY, Spalding et al.... got a solid 4+ foot run with much fun and merriment. Bryon and I punched in after petting the friendly coon and enjoyed a 3- falling moderately, run. Wile we missed out on the jumbo surf, the level was unique, with a lot of usually tricky spots serving up great eddy service, and some sticky holes becoming blissful spin spots. What it lacked in overall punch it made up for in intriguing play. So much so, that we ran into the third shift just past Buddies . With Cave Larry, Adam, and Ruchi teaming up we found the river wide ledge with the squirt seam on river left to be yet another top drawer drop at this level.
Bryon had a fish jump on his skirt and almost had a bare handed catch of the day.
I found another in the 1001 uses for an extra pfd and towel, makeshift cooler. The refreshments were cold and the chicken was divine (yes that was a toast to the Beastie Boys folks).
Save the rain dancing for September folks. Right now we don't need it.
